My Health Journey

I have Crohn’s disease. I was diagnosed 14 years ago. I suffered for years with stomach pain that got increasingly worse year after year until figuring out what was wrong with me. It was a relief to finally get an explanation for the crippling stomach pains I suffered regardless of what I ate. I went through all sorts of tests thinking at first maybe it was some sort of allergy, lactose intolerance, celiac disease, Colitis and then finally an x-ray showed Crohn’s. I had no idea what that even meant and when the specialist told me the diagnosis, he warned...

Christmas in Vancouver

I love this time of year for all the amazing activities around the city. Vancouver is a beautiful city any time of year, snuggled between the ocean and mountains and during the holidays, there are so many choices to help get you into that Christmas spirit. I love anything that involves lots of lights and decorations and feel like a kid again when I see elaborate displays of Christmas cheer! Every year I plan all the things I’m going to do and take Isabella to experience in the city. Sort of ends up being we do one big thing different...

Top 10 Christmas movies

Christmas movies are one of the things I look forward to the most around the holidays. I have always loved the specials that come on during December to celebrate the season & my brother and I used to have our favorites that we’d watch for every year on CBC. We liked the horribly animated Rudolph with the elf who dreamt of being a dentist,...

Real or fake? That is the question

Real or fake? That is the question… Christmas has always been my favorite time of year. I love everything about it. Spending time with family, the decorations, the lights, the music…all of it! We always had a real tree growing up & come to think of it, I don’t recall anyone who had an artificial tree in their home. I remember it being a hassle to get the tree up and straight, my dad would put the lights on first and then my mom, brother and I would put up the decorations, Boney M’s Christmas playing in the background because...

See the Forest for the Trees

I’ve debated writing this post. It’s one I want to share but it’s hard to write personal stories in a way that feels appropriate. This one is all about one of my biggest inspirations, my dad. My dad was a forester, first and foremost. A true Pacific Northwest boy with a deep love of the forest that surrounds us. He grew up in a small town on northern Vancouver Island within the trees of my grandpa’s 40-acre property. Sustainable forestry was his passion. He spent his early days in and out of logging camps, most of his time spent away...
